What is a PNR?
Your Passenger Name Record (PNR) is a unique 10-digit reference number generated for every reserved railway ticket. It helps you check the latest reservation status through the official Indian Railways PNR Enquiry.
Your PNR provides information such as:
- Booking Status
- Current Status
- Reservation Chart Status
- Coach and Berth Details (when available)
- Passenger Details
Where Can You Find Your PNR Number?
You can find your 10-digit PNR number on:
- Reserved e-Tickets
- Railway Reservation Counter Tickets
Enter the PNR number on the official enquiry page to view the latest reservation details.
Booking Status vs Current Status
Understanding these two terms helps avoid confusion before your journey.
Booking Status shows the reservation status at the time of ticket booking.
Current Status displays the latest reservation status after cancellations, quota changes and reservation chart preparation.
Always refer to the Current Status before travelling.
Understanding PNR Status Codes
CNF (Confirmed): Your seat or berth has been confirmed.
RAC: You are permitted to travel. A full berth may be allotted if available, subject to railway rules.
WL: Your ticket is not yet confirmed and is subject to seat availability.
GNWL: Waiting list applicable for the train's primary reservation route.
RLWL: Waiting list for specific intermediate stations having separate reservation quotas.
PQWL: Waiting list maintained under the pooled quota for multiple stations.
RQWL: Waiting list applicable for certain journey combinations where regular waiting lists are unavailable.
TQWL: Waiting list applicable to Tatkal bookings.
Reservation Chart & Coach Details
Indian Railways prepares the reservation chart before the scheduled departure of a train. After chart preparation, confirmed passengers can view their latest reservation status along with coach and berth details, wherever applicable.
If your coach or berth details are not yet available, check your PNR status again after the reservation chart has been prepared.
Before You Travel
- Check your latest PNR status before leaving for the railway station.
- Verify your coach and berth details after chart preparation.
- Carry a valid identity proof during your journey, wherever applicable.
